Our story

Depending on who you talk to, and at what time of day, you'll hear different versions of how Martins began. What's certain is that the business has been owned and run by the same family for over 50 years. In that time it has traded from more than one address in Hawkhurst and, in its early years, sold televisions and wirelesses as well as kitchens and appliances.

We've seen trends come and go, and we've adapted to survive. The internet brought new challenges, and our answer has been to put even more into product choice and customer service. There's nothing quite like seeing and touching that special kitchen or appliance, and then talking to people who know all about it.

Our showroom in Hawkhurst, a village in the Weald of Kent, is spread over three floors, two of them filled with kitchen displays and appliances, both built-in and freestanding. Our offices are here too, with free customer parking behind the building. Off site, we have a large, fully alarmed warehouse for kitchens and extra stock, and our own waste collection facilities.

Our designers guide you through choosing door styles, worktops, sinks and taps. Our appliance team helps you choose the best appliances from a wide selection of models on display, many of them working in the showroom. We supply and install cooking, refrigeration, dishwashing and laundry appliances from most leading manufacturers.

From Hawkhurst we design and install kitchens for homes across Kent and East Sussex, from Hawkhurst, Cranbrook and Goudhurst to Tenterden, Tunbridge Wells, Rye and Battle.

Our showroom was named Best Independent Kitchen Retailer Showroom at the ERT Awards in 2022, and again in 2025. Bill Radford-Earle, from our appliance team, won the ERT Sales Excellence Award in 2024.

We've sold Miele since the 1970s, and we're an authorised Miele service partner too. We've looked after Miele appliances for over 40 years, with our own local engineer and a 6-month warranty on our Miele repairs.
